Nothing too much wrong with the movie aside from some of the rotten characters...(ie the glory-takers and the sceptics) Having missed it much earlier, have picked up the bluray and with projector..looks great to me. Sound also pretty good. Given some comments here I can see that three times is not enough, as I have missed some points of significance. I think it is one of those films. Maybe the book would help.
Nice to note that dear old Weta Digital from my home base created the wormholes. To quote Ellie..."Ï had no idea..I had no idea"

I just wanted to express my deep love for the story of Contact. I remember seeing the movie in the theater back in 1996 and I think I watched it again in the theater 2 more times lol. I remember initially feeling a bit angry as a Christian...I felt that the story portrayed Christians as freaks that are delusional. However, after about ten fifteen years I finally read the book and gained a better understanding of Carl Sagan and Ann Drunyans visiin...and I now hold this story to be my favorite of all-time. The story so cleverly begins with Christians looking crazy for their faith, yet, by the end of the story, it's the other way around and it's just mind boggling how Sgan and Drunyan figured out how to throw such a 180 LOL! I can literally watch the movie every day...thats how much I love this story. I'm also in the process of re-reading the book again and this time I am taking notes, yes notes lol. For those who have not read the book yet, please by all means do so, it is so much more in depth and you can really feel the entire worlds efforts more so during the reading than in the movie. I suggest taking notes though as there are many more characters to reference.. Also, keep a dictionary nearby because the vocabulary is quite intelligent if you ask me. Let me again just express my deepest love for this story and, though I do not believe that God has created any other intelligent life anywhere else except for Earth FOR NOW, I do believe that God will keep creating it elsewhere in the universe in the years to come once the Earth (society) is once again how He originally proposed it to be. In the book of Revelation it says that there wull be new scrolls to be opened and I pray that will include the finding of new lifeforms on other planets. What a humbling and awe-inspiring moment that would be!

This is one for Cinbear! Having watched the film on BluRay, the audio is perhaps a bit more optimal. Elli does say "Poettry . . . they should have sent a poet!" and not "Bolishvie ..." She simply slurs its pronunciation in light of her epiphany.

Just noticed the comment by Tomas, regarding the number system. A prime number is valid what ever number system is used. They could by Binars using Binary but the number of pulses would still be the same which make up the primes, it was only the VLA computer system which was displayng the tally in decimal.

This film is close to my heart. I have a great respect for Carl Sagan, and even though I've not read the book, I feel the film has been well executed, I'm sure Carl would have agreed. I've just watched the Blu Ray version, and this is much better than the DVD, although the audio is only AC3 rather than DTS HD, it doesn't lose much because of it. Where the Blu Ray counts is the travel scenes to Vaga where you capture the full visual spectical of her journey. Its a film which calls to close inspection our entire belief system, whether you're a scientist or otherwise, not suggesting though that all scientists are godless. As an engineer I too look for empiricle proof of the existance of god, but feel we don't yet know all the facts to say for sure one way or another that there isn't.
Anyway, it's a great shame Carl never managed to write a sequal, but I'm hopeful that someone will pick up that mantel as this has plenty of scope to go for a great sequal.

I wonder about something. One of the important issues of the film concerns identifying sequences of prime numbers as though that would be a universal constant. What if the aliens were using a different number scheme...say base 8 instead of base 10?

My guess is that the backwards "C"s are a constellation... maybe Corona Borealis? Why this constellation...? Hmmmm
